Family law / Child support

Leave the first meeting with a realistic number.

Karin runs the Iowa Child Support Guidelines worksheet with you at the first meeting, so the conversation starts with something concrete.

How the worksheet works

More than one number matters.

Both parents’ incomes. The guidelines begin with the income available to each household.

Overnights. The number of overnights each parent has can affect the calculation.

Health insurance. The cost of covering a child is part of the worksheet.

Child care. Work-related child-care costs are included too.

Changing support

When the current order no longer fits.

When a new guideline amount would differ from the current order by 10 percent or more, it is usually worth asking the court to change it. An agreed child support or custody change is a flat $1,250.
